Following the retrial prompted by the Court of Cassation’s reversal decision, a verdict has been reached in the case related to the terrorist group Daesh’s attack on Ankara railway station on Oct. 10, 2015, resulting in the deaths of 101 people.

According to reports, 10 defendants who were in custody received aggravated life sentences, while the detained defendant Erman Ekici was sentenced to 101 aggravated life imprisonments.

What happened?

Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 4 accepted the indictment prepared by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against the terrorist attack in 2016 and the first hearing was held on Nov. 7, 2016.

The court, which concluded the trial on Aug. 3, 2018, sentenced nine defendants to 101 times aggravated life imprisonment, one each for “violating the constitutional order” and “intentional killing of 100 people”, and decided to separate the case against 16 fugitive defendants.

On the other hand, a criminal complaint was filed against Ekici, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for “leading an armed terrorist organization”, to be tried for “violating the constitutional order”, “intentional killing of 100 people” and “attempted killing” for the complainants who were injured in the terrorist act.
