Main opposition leader Ozgur Ozel, currently in the U.S. for the Socialist International Presidency Council meeting, announced his commitment to advancing Turkiye’s aspirations for EU membership on Wednesday.

Ozel emphasized the goal of achieving full EU membership: stating, “In our talks in New York, we will express our expectation for written support from all our political allies and those we meet regarding Turkiye’s full EU membership.”

He clarified that pursuing this goal does not entail abandoning relations with Russia, China, or other global partners.

The opposition leader stressed that seeking closer ties with the EU does not conflict with maintaining strong relations with other nations.

“The goal of full EU membership and the potential for better relations with Russia are not contradictory,” Ozel said.
