China’s President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Türkiye in early 2025, marking a significant moment in the evolving diplomatic relationship between the two nations.

The anticipated visit comes as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan prepares to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, scheduled for mid-2025.

Xi Jinping’s last visit to Türkiye in 2012 was characterized by positive media coverage and significant diplomatic engagement. At that time, the two leaders discussed fostering strategic trust through continued high-level contacts, expanding realistic cooperation for mutual development, enhancing cultural communication to strengthen ties between their peoples, and bolstering multilateral cooperation to protect shared interests.

The most recent discussions between Presidents Erdogan and Xi took place on July 4, 2024, during the 24th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana.

The two leaders engaged in a comprehensive dialogue addressing various pressing issues, including the bilateral ties between Türkiye and China, the ongoing Ukraine-Russia War, and Israel’s actions in Palestine.

During their meeting, President Erdogan emphasized the importance of advancing Türkiye’s relations with China across multiple sectors. He stated, “The aim is to increasingly continue the steps taken to improve Türkiye’s relations with China in every field, and that this will benefit both countries.”

Erdogan also expressed concerns regarding the potential escalation of the Ukraine-Russia conflict and the situation in Palestine, underscoring the need for the international community to implement effective measures to address these crises.
