Canakkale Strait maritime traffic halted due to fog, ferry routes adjusted for marathon

Local maritime authorities said maritime traffic in Türkiye’s Canakkale Strait was suspended in both directions early Sunday because of heavy fog.
Dense fog severely reduced visibility in the strait, prompting the Canakkale Strait Vessel Traffic Services to halt all transit shipping from northbound and southbound directions starting at 8:00 a.m.
Authorities said traffic would resume once the weather improves.
The fog did not affect local ferry operations in the strait and island lines, which continue on schedule.
However, the Canakkale-Eceabat and Canakkale-Kilitbahir ferry routes were suspended from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. because of the Saucony Troya Half Marathon taking place in the city today.

Ferry adjustments
- Final sailings before the suspension:
- Kilitbahir to Canakkale: 9:00 a.m.
- Eceabat to Canakkale: 8:45 a.m.
- Services will resume from Eceabat at 13:00 and from Kilitbahir at 1:15 p.m.
- Departures from Canakkale to both destinations will restart at 1:45 p.m.
The maritime authorities will reopen the strait to ship traffic once visibility improves.
