Calls for early elections unfounded: Turkish nationalist leader

Devlet Bahceli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), has strongly dismissed the increasing calls for early elections, stating, “The discussions and rumors surrounding early elections are baseless. The efforts of those attempting to drag our party into this debate are in vain.”
In a statement marking the 105th anniversary of the Turkish Parliament and National Sovereignty and Children’s Day on April 23, Bahceli reaffirmed the MHP and the People’s Alliance’s commitment to holding elections on schedule, saying, “Our decision is final, and there will be no deviation from it.”

Bahceli also criticized opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Ozgur Ozel for his recent “war declaration,” calling it “a scandalous and illogical statement. “If you are truly seeking a counterpart, we are here,” he added.
The MHP leader further condemned the actions of some CHP members in Parliament, calling them “illegitimate and unethical,” and demanded the resignation of the CHP’s Parliamentary Vice President and Secretary. “Their actions represent a serious violation of parliamentary rules,” Bahceli said.
Regarding the PKK, Bahceli emphasized that the most reasonable and just solution would be for the group to disarm and hand over its weapons to the Turkish government. “Ending the violence is in the best interest of both our nation and humanity,” he stated.

Bahceli also expressed his hopes for the quick recovery of Sirri Sureyya Onder, the Deputy Speaker of the Turkish Parliament and a member of the Democratic Party (DEM), adding, “I sincerely hope that he recovers soon.”
In closing, Bahceli emphasized the importance of April 23, saying, “The Turkish Grand National Assembly represents the will and sovereignty of the Turkish people. No force is above the will of the nation.”
