The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League’s Gaza Contact Group will hold a meeting on Sunday in Cairo to discuss the recent developments in Gaza.

During the meeting, Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to highlight the risks posed by Israel’s actions in Syria’s occupied territories.

At the Cairo summit, the steps that can be taken to implement the Gaza plan, which was adopted during the OIC meeting, will be discussed. The meeting will also focus on what can be done to stop the ongoing genocide.

Foreign Minister Fidan is expected to remind the group that Israel has occupied southern Syria for nearly 50 years. Fidan is anticipated to raise concerns about Israel’s efforts to expand its occupation of Syrian territory following the fall of the Assad regime, which could lead to further regional risks.

3-phase plan for Gaza’s reconstruction

The new plan proposed for Gaza’s reconstruction outlines a three-phase process. The Gaza Plan, which is centered around “temporary measures, reconstruction, and governance,” aims to rebuild Gaza by 2030 and ensure that the 2 million residents remain in place.

The first phase of the plan is expected to last around six months, while the second phase will take approximately four to five years.

The first phase, known as the “early recovery phase,” aims to clear large amounts of rubble and unexploded ordnance. During this phase, it is planned to house the 1.5 million displaced Palestinians in temporary container shelters. Countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy are supporting the Gaza Plan, which also advocates for a two-state solution.
