Avalanche hits restricted area at Türkiye’s Palandoken Ski Resort, no casualties reported

An avalanche occurred in a restricted area of the Palandoken Ski Resort in Türkiye’s Erzurum. No injuries or fatalities have been reported, and a search operation is underway as a precaution.
The incident took place around 11:30 a.m. in a location that was closed to skiers. It is believed that the avalanche was triggered by four foreign skiers who entered the restricted zone.
The skiers managed to escape without injury, and gendarmerie and Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) teams were dispatched to the scene.
Emergency teams are searching the area to ensure safety, though there have been no reported casualties.
Erzurum Governor confirms no casualties in avalanche incident
Erzurum Governor Mustafa Ciftci made a statement regarding the avalanche incident that occurred in the Yusuf’un Deresi area.
Ciftci stated that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident, saying, “The location where the incident occurred is the Yusuf’un Deresi area, which is closed for skiing. After the investigation, no fatalities or injuries were found.”

A similar avalanche occurred on Dec. 21, 2024, on Mount Palandoken during a high-altitude training camp of the Turkish National Judo Team in the Sultan Sekisi area.
The avalanche led to the death of one athlete and injuries to three others.
