Aselsan unveils wheeled version of Korkut air defense system at Eurosatory 2024
Aselsan’s Korkut 35 mm air defense system has been used by the Turkish Land Forces on a tracked FNSS ACV-30 chassis for a number of years. However, the company introduced a wheeled version of the system at Eurosatory 2024 in Paris which ran from June 17 to 21, mounted on an Otokar Arma 8×8 armored combat vehicle chassis.
The core component of the Korkut air defense system is a turret-mounted twin-barrel 35 mm gun system. The guns have a firing rate of 550 rounds per minute and can fire Aselsan’s ATOM 35mm airburst ammunition in addition to conventional 35mm rounds.
This capability enables the system to engage various airborne threats, such as fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
An automatic linkless ammunition feed mechanism (ALAFM) in the twin guns allows for the simultaneous loading of two distinct types of ammunition into the magazine.
This feature enables a swift switch in ammunition type in less than 15 seconds. The magazine holds 200 ready-to-fire rounds and an additional 200 rounds as spares.
Stabilization technology equips the gun turret to track and fire at targets while in motion. It includes a fire control radar and an opto-electronic sensor for automatic target tracking.
