Armenian president signals new phase in Türkiye relations
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan announced that Armenia and Türkiye have a shared understanding regarding the normalization process between the two nations, indicating that their relationship is entering a new phase.
During his visit to Turkmenistan, Khachaturyan expressed optimism about the potential for Armenian-Turkish normalization in the near future.
In remarks to the Armenian press, he mentioned meeting with Numan Kurtulmus, the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. He explained that their discussion was brief due to Kurtulmus’s tight schedule, as he was in and out in a single day.
However, they focused on important topics, such as achieving peaceful coexistence, opening borders, and establishing diplomatic relations.
Progress in relations between Türkiye, Armenia
Khachaturyan highlighted that discussions about normalization are occurring at various levels on both sides. He noted a common understanding within state policy that Armenia-Türkiye relations have entered a new phase, with progress anticipated soon.
He also pointed out that both parties have actively taken advantage of opportunities to come together and discuss normalization.
This suggests that the normalization of Armenia-Türkiye relations could soon become a reality, particularly regarding the opening of borders and the establishment of diplomatic relations.
