Armed attack targets Iraqi Consulate General in Istanbul

An armed attack was carried out on the Iraqi Consulate General in Istanbul’s Sisli district on Friday.
Two suspects on a motorcycle opened fire with long-barreled weapons at the consulate building in the Esentepe neighborhood of Istanbul. The suspects fled the scene after the attack, and fortunately, no one was injured.
In response to the incident, police teams were dispatched to the area, cordoning off the street where the consulate is located and taking security precautions.
Authorities have launched an operation to capture the fleeing suspects, and investigations at the scene are ongoing.

‘Necessary measures taken’
Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Oncu Keceli issued a statement, confirming the incident: “This evening, individuals on a motorcycle opened fire on the Iraqi Consulate in Istanbul. There were no casualties or material damage in the incident.”
Keceli also emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway, with identity verification efforts in progress, and that those responsible will be held accountable.
“We wish our Iraqi brothers a speedy recovery,” Keceli said, adding, “We are in constant contact with Iraqi officials. All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the security of Iraq’s diplomatic missions in Ankara, Istanbul, and Gaziantep.”
