Türkiye’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz announced that Türkiye is ready to support Sudan’s political process and assist in stabilizing the conflict-stricken nation.

Speaking during a high-level U.N. Security Council session chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Yildiz emphasized Türkiye’s deep historical ties with Sudan and its commitment to the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“The conflict in Sudan, now in its second year, has become a humanitarian catastrophe,” Yildiz noted.

Over 11 million people have been displaced, and hundreds of thousands have lost their lives. Vital infrastructure, including health care facilities, has been severely damaged.

We are extremely concerned about the humanitarian crisis and the continuation of conflict in Sudan.

We have deep-rooted relations with Sudan and its people, going back many years. We attach utmost importance to Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty.

We continue to send humanitarian aid to Sudan and call on the international community to increase humanitarian efforts. However, the root causes of the conflict must also be addressed.

The conflict must be stopped immediately. We must not allow Sudan to slip away from the attention of the international community.

We call on both sides to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further bloodshed and harm to civilians.

As conveyed by our President to the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Burhan, Türkiye is ready to initiate or take part in political processes aimed at resolving the crisis.

Türkiye’s humanitarian efforts in Sudan

Türkiye has provided substantial humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing conflict. Recently, three Turkish aid ships delivered approximately 8,000 tons of supplies to Port Sudan.

Despite challenging conditions, Türkiye-Sudan Nyala Education and Research Hospital continues its operations, showcasing Türkiye’s dedication to the Sudanese people.

“The continuation of our embassy-level presence in Port Sudan demonstrates Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to standing by the Sudanese government and people,” Yildiz stated.

Call for immediate end to conflict in Sudan

Ambassador Yildiz urged all parties in Sudan to show maximum restraint to prevent further harm to civilians. He called for international efforts to address both the humanitarian crisis and the political challenges facing the country.

“Sudan’s conflict requires not just addressing symptoms but tackling the underlying causes,” Yildiz said, emphasizing that the Jeddah Declaration serves as a critical framework for achieving peace.

Türkiye’s broader role in Africa

Commenting on Türkiye’s strategic partnership with the African Union, Yildiz underscored Ankara’s efforts to foster comprehensive and equal cooperation with African nations.

“Türkiye mobilizes its resources to support Africa’s aspirations for lasting peace, democracy, and development,” he said. This commitment has built mutual trust, paving the way for effective mediation efforts in regional disputes.

Türkiye’s readiness to assist Sudan’s political process

In his closing remarks, Yildiz reaffirmed Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to Sudan’s political stabilization. “We are prepared to engage in all political processes to enhance peace and security in East Africa,” he said, reiterating President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s message of support to Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

Yildiz also urged the international community to intensify efforts in both humanitarian and political mediation. “The people of Sudan deserve to be freed from the cycle of violence and despair,” he concluded.
