A spring festival in the capital Ankara commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Turkish-German Friendship Treaty, emphasizing deep-rooted diplomatic ties and shared cultural exchanges between the two countries

A spring festival was held in the capital city to mark the 100th anniversary of the Turkish-German Friendship Treaty.

The event, hosted by the German Embassy in Ankara, was attended by Ambassador Jurgen Schulz, embassy staff, and numerous guests.

Speaking at the event, Schulz expressed his happiness at the participation of the guests, saying, “This year is actually a very special year for Turkish-German relations because we are celebrating an anniversary. This is the 100th anniversary of the Turkish-German Friendship Treaty.”

Schulz noted that the foundation of friendship between Türkiye and Germany was laid with the signing of the Turkish-German Friendship Treaty in 1924, stating, “With this friendship treaty, the very young Republic of Türkiye at the time laid a very important foundation for relations. After that, diplomatic relations began with various ties in different fields.”

Schulz recalled that Türkiye’s first ambassador was appointed to Germany in May 1924, adding:

“For 100 years, diplomatic relations have led to the establishment of an unprecedented network of relations between Türkiye and Germany. Germany does not have such intense human relations with any other country. Not only the friendship treaty signed 100 years ago, but also many agreements, such as the labor recruitment agreement signed in the 1960s, have contributed to the intensification of these relations. Of course, we have very intense relations with Türkiye not only in diplomatic relations but also in many other fields. Political, economic, cultural, scientific, sports, you name it.”

At the event held to mark the 100th anniversary of the Turkish-German Friendship Treaty, numerous activities were organized for children and adults.
