Ilham Aliyev commences his new presidential term in Azerbaijan with a solemn oath-taking ceremony, pledging to uphold the nation’s Constitution and honor its traditions

A swearing-in ceremony for Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev was held in the capital, Baku, on Wednesday.

Farhad Abdullayev, the chief of Azerbaijan’s Constitutional Court, extended the invitation to Aliyev to undertake the oath of office in the National Assembly following the court’s official confirmation of his victory in last week’s impromptu election, as per a statement from Azerbaijan’s presidency.

According to the statement, Aliyev pledged his commitment to the country’s Constitution by placing his hand upon it during the swearing-in, vowing to uphold its principles while exercising his authority, safeguarding the nation’s independence and territorial integrity, and serving its people with honor.

Subsequently, Aliyev reaffirmed his dedication to national and moral values and traditions, which have been ingrained by the Azerbaijani people over centuries, by placing his hand on the Quran, the sacred book of Islam.

Having served as Azerbaijan’s president since 2003, Aliyev secured reelection for a fifth consecutive term on Feb. 7, garnering over 92% of the vote.
