The inclusion of Turkish Baykar’s TB2 drones in the Albanian army’s arsenal represents a significant advancement in European defense capabilities, marking a historic milestone

The Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar’s TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) has officially been added to the arsenal of the Albanian army, marking a significant development in European countries’ use of this advanced technology.

Haluk Bayraktar, the head of Baykar, announced that this event marks “the first instance of a NATO-compliant aerial vehicle being integrated into Albania’s military inventory.”

The TB2s conducted their inaugural flights over Albanian skies today, made possible by the “forward-thinking leadership” of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the close collaboration of Defense Minister Niko Peleshi, Bayraktar highlighted.

Bayraktar also revealed the inauguration of NATO’s inaugural tactical air base in Albania, describing the day as historically significant.

“The opening of the Kucova Air Base signifies the start of a new chapter for Balkan and European security,” he remarked.

He emphasized that the deployment of TB2s “at this key location underscores our commitment to bolstering Albania’s and the Balkans’ safety.”

Albania’s entry into the NATO alliance in 2009 further underscore the strategic importance of this integration of advanced drone technology into European defense systems.
