AK Party’s Elitas comments on political softening beetween Erdogan and Ozel
Mustafa Elitas, deputy chairman of the AK Party, commented on recent political developments, noting a positive reception among supporters of the AK Party and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) toward the softening process. However, he mentioned that members of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) are less enthusiastic about it. Elitas attributed this softening to the departure of Kemal Kilicdaroglu from the CHP leadership.
Elitas also provided details about the meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel.
“Softening in politics means adhering to its own rules,” Elitas said, emphasizing that the public longs for this change.
Elitas highlighted that Kilicdaroglu’s resignation as CHP chairman has influenced the softening of relations between the CHP and the AK Party. He recalled the night of July 15, when the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) attempted a coup, praising CHP Chairman Ozel for standing firm under the bombardment.
“On the night of July 15, we called all our MPs to Ankara. About 85 AK Party MPs came. I was in Kayseri, coordinating with our Speaker of Parliament. We decided to open the Parliament. I invited CHP’s deputy chairmen, including Ozel, Engin Altay, and Levent Gok, to the Parliament. They came, and Ozel stood under the bombs. He felt in his soul that it was a coup attempt. However, Kilicdaroglu watched the coup from the Bakirkoy mayor’s house. Ozel was at Parliament podium on July 15,” Elitas explained.
Elitas also noted that Ozel welcomed President Erdogan with courtesy, adding another layer to the ongoing political softening.
