AK Party launches a comprehensive water conservation initiative to combat water scarcity and climate change

Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has announced a plan to address the pressing challenges of water scarcity and climate change through a comprehensive water conservation initiative.

AK Party aims to foster a national awareness of “Using water without depleting it” by introducing innovative steps to ensure sustainable water management across the country.

This initiative seeks to transform urban and newly developed residential areas by incorporating rainwater collection systems and other water-efficient technologies.

Comprehensive approach to environmental sustainability

The initiative goes beyond water conservation, incorporating strategies to mitigate flood risks and facilitate rainwater recycling. Urban landscaping will prioritize drought-resistant plant species and irrigation schedules will be optimized to minimize water consumption.

Additionally, the adoption of permeable materials in urban infrastructure will play a crucial role in flood prevention and the effective recycling of rainwater.

The initiative also involves selecting plants and trees that provide shade and require less water. These measures are expected to contribute to carbon sequestration efforts and reduce urban temperatures.

Expanding green spaces

A key goal of the AK Party’s environmental strategy is is to increase the accessibility of green spaces for the Turkish population.
