The Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2024 emerges as a pivotal platform for international cooperation, fostering dialogue on pressing global issues and promoting peace and understanding among nations

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan declared on Sunday that the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) has cemented its place as a renowned brand and intellectual hub in diplomacy internationally.

ADF concluded on March 3 with the participation of 4,700 people from 48 different countries.

“By adopting a regional ownership perspective, the Forum has grown into a globally recognized brand and intellectual center for diplomacy. It serves as a platform for exchanging approaches and experiences in addressing global issues and a space where an array of worldviews are articulated,” Fidan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

During the forum, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan engaged in discussions with 11 heads of state during the event.

Türkiye’s increasing influence in Africa reflected

With the influence of Türkiye’s Africa initiative apparent, many high-level officials from African nations showed considerable interest in the 3rd Antalya Diplomacy Forum held from March 1-3, 2024.

Aside from 25 foreign ministers from Africa, the ADF was attended by three ministers, two parliamentary speakers, three heads of international organizations, and three high-level representatives from international bodies.

Addressing the representatives, Fidan underscored Türkiye’s development of a systematic and multidimensional cooperation model with African countries, emphasizing that relations are founded on principles of equal partnership and mutual respect. Fidan also held bilateral meetings with African leaders during the event.

From Armenia to Ukraine, various topics addressed

Discussions at the forum revolved around a range of current topics including the role of youth in global diplomacy, regional developments, emerging economies, women and security, and globalization.

The forum also saw discussions on steps toward normalization with Armenia. Leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan came together to discuss peace after the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Concluding the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in southern Türkiye on Sunday, Fidan expressed optimism for upcoming cease-fire negotiations to ease tensions in the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

During the conference, Fidan engaged in discussions with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on several pressing issues, including the situation in Ukraine. “Regarding the issue of Ukraine, we believe that both sides have reached the limits of what can be achieved through conflict,” Fidan emphasized, stressing the necessity for dialogue. “We consider it imperative to initiate discussions for a cease-fire.”

Gaza crisis highlighted

Fidan highlighted that the forum actively addresses global crises threatening peace and security, focusing on the ongoing situation in Gaza.

President Erdogan once again reiterated Türkiye’s approach to Gaza to the world.

Erdogan criticized global peacekeeping institutions for their failure to fulfill even the most basic responsibilities in maintaining peace in the besieged Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless Israeli oppression for days.

“Gaza has tragically become a symbol of global failure and inaction. The continuous attacks by Israel targeting civilian settlements have resulted in the loss of approximately 30,000 lives among Gazans,” the president lamented.

The forum will continue to bring global leaders to Türkiye in its successive editions to discuss and find solutions to the world’s most urgent problems under Türkiye’s initiative.
