Heightened security: 60K personnel in Istanbul to ensure safety for New Years

The Istanbul Governor’s Office Tuesday announced security measures being taken for the New Year; key roads will be closed, and 60,000 security personnel will be on duty across the city.

On Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, security measures will be implemented at the highest level across the city, especially in the centers where our citizens will be concentrated. Our police, gendarmerie, and coast guard units will work with a total of 60,068 personnel to ensure that our citizens can meet the year 2025 in peace.

In addition, the efforts to combat illegal immigration carried out with mobile migration vehicles will continue uninterrupted at the beginning of the year.

Within the scope of New Year’s measures, heavy tonnage vehicles such as trucks, concrete mixers, etc. are prohibited from entering Sarıyer, Sisli, Besiktas, Beyoglu, Fatih, Bakirkoy, Zeytinburnu, and Kadikoy Districts from 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 31.12.2024 to 08:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 1.01.2025.

Istanbul’s security will be comprised of 10,498 total teams, four helicopters, seven detector dogs and 10 boats.

Key areas closed to traffic include Istiklal Street, Asmali Mescit Street and Tarlabasi Boulevard in Beyoglu; Abdi Ipekci Street and Bostan Street in Sisli; the center of Besiktas; and several neighborhoods in Kadikoy.
