The recent unrest in Kayseri, sparked by an incident involving a Syrian national allegedly abusing a child, continues to dominate headlines.

In response to the escalating situation, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the detention of numerous individuals involved in the unrest.

“Following the disgraceful incident in Kayseri, there have been provocative actions targeting Syrians in several cities across our country last night. As a result of these illegal provocations, 474 individuals have been detained,” Yerlikaya stated.

285 with extensive criminal records

Minister Yerlikaya further elaborated: “Out of those detained, 285 individuals have been found to have criminal records for various offenses, including human smuggling, assault, drug-related crimes, robbery, theft, property damage, sexual harassment, fraud, counterfeiting, threats, insults and deprivation of liberty.”

Call for staying calm

Yerlikaya called for calm and restraint: “Dear Citizens, let us not be swayed by provocations. Let us act with restraint. Do not resort to illegal means, causing harm to people, property, or the environment. Our state is strong. Those who conspire against our state and nation will face the consequences they deserve.”
