45 suspects detained in Istanbul counter-Daesh operation

Turkish authorities detained 45 individuals in an extensive counterterrorism operation targeting the Daesh terrorist network in Istanbul, according to officials.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched the investigation, focusing on individuals allegedly involved in pro-Daesh activities.
Among those identified was a suspect using the code names “Ebu Zeyd” and “Suleyman Hoca.”
Illegal activities uncovered in raid
The 54-year-old suspect, identified as Ismail O., was accused of organizing illegal sermons and lectures to recruit supporters for Daesh under the guise of operating an unlicensed prayer hall.
Investigators revealed funds collected under the pretexts of almsgiving, zakat, and donations were used to support Daesh affiliates and establish religious schools.
Authorities also found evidence suggesting that the money was funneled to Daesh loyalists held in terrorist organization PKK/YPG-controlled camps in Syria.
Nationwide operation targets multiple locations
Following a court order, law enforcement conducted simultaneous raids on 52 locations across nine Istanbul districts and one address in Diyarbakir.
The operation led to the detention of 45 individuals, with search efforts ongoing for additional suspects.
The main hub of the operation was a prayer hall in Istanbul’s Sancaktepe district, where authorities allege key activities for Daesh recruitment and financing took place.
