4.8 magnitude earthquake strikes Black Sea off Turkish coast

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Black Sea region on Friday, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). The tremor occurred at 10:16 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located offshore in the Black Sea.

The earthquake’s epicenter was recorded at approximately 119.64 kilometers (74.34 miles) from Bartin’s Amasra district, at a depth of 9.33 kilometers, according to AFAD’s official report. The agency noted that there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
Monitoring and response efforts underway
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents in nearby coastal areas to remain calm. AFAD is continuing to assess the impact, although the earthquake’s location offshore has reduced the likelihood of significant damage.
Türkiye is located in an active seismic zone and frequently experiences earthquakes of varying magnitudes.
