Turkish authorities seized 365 kilograms (804.6 pounds) of drugs and detained 12 suspects in a large-scale anti-narcotics operation in Istanbul, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on Saturday.
The operation, named “Narkokapan-15,” targeted an organized crime group reportedly involved in drug trafficking.
Coordinated operation across multiple districts
Yerlikaya announced on social media that the operation was carried out in coordination with the Bakirkoy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the General Directorate of Security’s Narcotics Crimes Department.
The Istanbul Police Department’s narcotics and intelligence divisions conducted simultaneous raids at 13 locations across the Gungoren, Bahcelievler, Beyoglu, Kagithane, and Fatih districts.
Authorities seized a total of 365 kilograms of drugs, and 12 individuals suspected of involvement in the criminal network were taken into custody.
Minister highlights commitment to combat drug trade
In his statement, Yerlikaya emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.
“We are on every street, every avenue, every corner! We do not allow the drug dealers to open their eyes. We do not and will not allow them to darken the future of our children,” he said.
Yerlikaya also shared footage from the operation and extended his congratulations to the prosecutor’s office and law enforcement officers involved in the operation.
