34 irregular migrants detained in separate operations in Türkiye’s Izmir and Igdir
A total of 34 irregular migrants were detained and two rescued in two seperate operations in Izmir and Igdir.
In Izmir’s Urla district, two migrants fell into the sea while trying to flee from authorities, while 19 others were saved from being stranded on land. And in Igdir, 15 irregular migrants were captured for entering Türkiye illegally, and two suspects involved in facilitating the illegal migration were arrested.
Operation in Urla, Izmir
According to a statement from the Coast Guard Command, the group of irregular migrants was spotted onboard a rubber boat off the coast of Urla. When authorities attempted to stop the boat, two migrants fell into the sea while trying to escape but were later rescued. The rest of the migrants managed to reach the shore.
With the assistance of the Urla District Gendarmerie Command, the rescue teams later retrieved the stranded migrants, who were then transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management after necessary procedures.
Operation in Igdir
In a separate operation in Igdir, 15 foreign nationals were detained after being discovered to have entered Türkiye illegally. The Igdir Provincial Gendarmerie carried out an operation in the Tuzluca district, resulting in the detention of 15 Afghan nationals, who were sent to the Igdir Removal Center.
Two suspects involved in facilitating the illegal entry of these migrants were also arrested.
These operations highlight Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to tackle irregular migration, with authorities successfully rescuing and detaining numerous migrants in both regions.
