2 suspects linked to DHKP-C arrested for plotting attack on Istanbul Courthouse

Two suspects linked to the armed terrorist group DHKP-C have been arrested for conducting reconnaissance on Istanbul Courthouse as part of a planned attack, authorities said.
Investigation into DHKP-C activities
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into DHKP-C’s activities, focusing on efforts to uncover the group’s operations.
The probe identified two suspects reportedly affiliated with the group’s open-area structure, operating under the umbrella of the Prisoners’ Families Solidarity Association (TAYAD).
Authorities determined that the suspects were seeking to organize an attack during the so-called “Martyrs of the Revolution” commemoration period between March 30 and April 17. As part of these preparations, they allegedly conducted reconnaissance around Istanbul Courthouse.

Arrest and legal proceedings
Following the prosecutor’s orders, law enforcement detained two suspects: 77-year-old Yildiz T., who has two prior records related to DHKP-C activities, and 49-year-old Selda O., who has five past records linking her to the group.
After completing legal formalities at the police station, the suspects were transferred to Istanbul Courthouse. Prosecutors questioned them and subsequently referred them to a criminal court of peace with a request for their detention.
A judge later ruled for their arrest, and both suspects were placed in pretrial detention pending further proceedings.

Legal context and background
The DHKP-C is designated as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union.
The group has been involved in several attacks targeting law enforcement, judicial institutions, and public officials in Türkiye. Security forces regularly conduct operations against DHKP-C operatives to prevent planned attacks and dismantle the group’s networks.
Authorities continue to monitor and investigate potential threats posed by the organization, particularly during sensitive dates linked to the group’s ideology.
