14 suspects detained in Mersin for links to PKK/YPG terrorist group
Turkish authorities detained 14 suspects in an operation targeting the PKK/YPG terrorist group in Mersin, according to a statement from the Mersin Police Department.
Ongoing anti-terror efforts
The operation was part of ongoing efforts to uncover and disrupt the activities of the PKK/YPG, a group designated as a terrorist organization by Türkiye and many other countries.
Authorities have been monitoring individuals suspected of participating in the organization’s activities, which include attending meetings and demonstrations, as well as using social media for recruitment and propaganda.
Operation conducted in Mersin and Tarsus
Police conducted simultaneous raids at locations in Mersin’s city center and the district of Tarsus. As a result, 14 individuals suspected of being involved in the organization’s operations were detained.
The suspects have been taken to the police station for questioning.
