UEFA gives Merih Demiral a 2-match ban
In the UEFA Euro 2024 Round of 16 match against Austria, Turkish national team player Merih Demiral, who made a grey wolf gesture, has been given a 2-match ban by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has decided to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
On July 3, disciplinary proceedings were initiated regarding the gesture. Despite a 30-page defense prepared by both domestic and international lawyers, the UEFA Disciplinary Committee still imposed a 2-match ban on Merih Demiral for the grey wolf gesture.
UEFA fines Bellingham €30,000 for obscene gesture
UEFA has fined Jude Bellingham €30,000 and suspended him for one UEFA competition match, following an incident where he made an obscene gesture during the England vs Slovakia game. The suspension, not immediately enforced, is subject to a one-year probationary period from the date of the decision, as stated by UEFA’s disciplinary committee.
UEFA reviewed Bellingham’s defense over a period of five days before reaching its decision.
In a separate incident, UEFA has also ruled on the defense presented by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and Merih Demiral. Following just a three-hour review this morning, UEFA has imposed the sanction.
