Türkiye‘s national women’s U-18 ice hockey team clinched the gold medal at the world championship in Istanbul, defeating Iceland 2-0 in their final match of the second Tier B group on Jan. 23.

The match, held at the Zeytinburnu Ice Arena, saw goals from Sidre Haciosmanoglu and Azra Senyuva, securing a dominant victory for the Turkish team.

With this win, Türkiye achieved a perfect record of four victories in four matches, topping the B group standings. Their strong performance earned them the championship title and the right to compete in the second Tier A group in future competitions.

After the match, a trophy ceremony was held, where Türkiye was awarded the gold medal. Iceland, who finished second, took home the silver, while Belgium secured third place and received the bronze medal.

The gold medal marked a milestone in Turkish ice hockey.

Ice sports investments

During winter time ice skating can be seen in the cold eastern provinces of Türkiye, the first Olympic-sized ice skating rink was established in Ankara in 1987.

The government and private sector have invested in various ice sports since then, with the Ministry of Youth and Sport today overseeing 88 different ice skating rinks.
