Türkiye’s women’s handball team qualifies for EHF 2024 European Championship
Türkiye’s women’s national handball team qualifies for the EHF 2024 Women’s European Handball Championship for the first time.
For the first time in its existence, Türkiye’s women’s national handball team has qualified to compete in the EHF 2024 Women’s European Handball Championship. From Nov. 28 to Dec. 15, 24 teams will compete in the competition, which is being held in Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland.
With two wins, one tie, and two defeats from their five qualifying round games, the national team qualified for the final. Türkiye was defeated 39–23 by Montenegro in their opening game, and then they drew 29–29 with Serbia in Ankara. The squad started off strong, defeating Bulgaria 30–24 on the road. In a rematch, played in Türkiye, the team won 38–13. They suffered a blow, though, when they lost to Montenegro in Rize by a slim margin of 30-28. In the decisive game, which took place in Zrenjanin, Serbia defeated Türkiye 30–22.
Türkiye placed among the top three teams in the group and qualified for the European Championship with these performances.
With 24 teams competing, the EHF 2024 Women’s European Handball Championship will be the biggest competition ever. Four cities in Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland will host it. The main round will be held in Vienna, Austria, and Debrecen; the preliminary rounds will be conducted in Basel, Switzerland; Innsbruck, Austria; and Debrecen, Hungary. With 10,000 seats available, the Wiener Stadthalle Sports Hall in Vienna will host the championship game.
