Türkiye triumphs over Iceland 3-1, Kerem Akturkoglu’s hat-trick shines

In their second UEFA Nations League B Group 4 match, Türkiye defeated Iceland 3-1 at Gursel Aksel Stadium in Izmir. Following a draw against Wales, Türkiye overcame Iceland with a hat-trick from Kerem Akturkoglu, raising their points tally to 4 and taking the lead on goal difference. Iceland, with a single goal from Victor Palsson, remains at 3 points.
Kerem Akturkoglu, who had limited playing time under coach Vincenzo Montella during EURO 2024, was the hero for Türkiye, scoring three goals, though one was disallowed for offside.
Akturkoglu, who scored his first professional hat-trick at Gursel Aksel Stadium while playing for Galatasaray against Goztepe, repeated the feat for the national team at the same venue. The star player’s performance has excited fans of his new club, Benfica.
Commenting on his goals, Akturkoglu said, “Türkiye always belongs at the top. We are not a B League team and will advance to the A League. Hopefully, we will achieve our goals. I dedicate these goals to my country. Türkiye is happy, and so am I. But these goals are not just mine; they were possible thanks to all my teammates.”
After the match, national team coach Vincenzo Montella reflected on the performance: “We wanted to deliver a beautiful night. That’s why we played like this. Even though it was exhausting at times, we won with a great performance, and we dedicate this victory to our country.”
