Türkiye misses out on gold at Paris Olympics 2024, marking first time since 1984

For the first time since 1984, this was the first instance when Türkiye did not win a gold medal at the Olympics.

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which were full of excitement, Turkish athletes competed in shooting, athletics, badminton, road cycling, boxing, artistic gymnastics, fencing, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, rowing, table tennis, modern pentathlon, archery, taekwondo, volleyball, sailing and swimming.

The Turkish team did not achieve a gold medal at this major event.

Thus, Türkiye, which competed with 102 athletes in 18 sports, did not win a gold medal for the first time in 40 years.

Türkiye has previously won 41 gold medals in the Olympics.

Since winning its first medal in 1936, Türkiye had won a total of 108 medals by the 2024 Olympics, including 41 gold, 28 silver and 39 bronze.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Türkiye won two gold, two silver and nine bronze medals, totaling 13 medals.

Turkish athletes won a total of eight medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, including five bronze and three silver.

In shooting, Sevval Ilayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikec, competing in the 10-meter air pistol mixed category, won Türkiye’s first-ever Olympic medal.

In boxing, Hatice Akbas won in the women’s 54 kg category, while Buse Naz Cakiroglu earned a silver medal in the women’s 50 kg category.

The Men’s Compound Archery Team, comprising Mete Gazoz, Ulas Berkim Tumer and Muhammed Abdullah Yildirmis, won a bronze medal.

In wrestling, Taha Akgul won the bronze medal in the 125 kg freestyle category by defeating Aiaal Lazarev from Kyrgyzstan with a score of 7-0.

Wrestler Buse Tosun Cavusoglu won a bronze medal by defeating her North Korean opponent Sol Gum Pak 4-2 in the 68-kilogram (149.9-pounds) category.

Boxer Esra Yildiz Kahraman won a bronze medal after losing to Lin Yu Ting from Taiwan in the 57-kilogram semi-final.

Taekwondo athlete Nafia Kus Aydin won a bronze medal by defeating Rebecca McGowan from Britain 2-1 in the bronze medal match.
