Türkiye triumphs over Iceland 4-2 for historic away victory
The Turkish national football team faced Iceland away in the UEFA Nations League and secured a historic 4-2 victory, marking their first-ever win against Iceland on foreign soil.
Türkiye, who had only managed one draw in seven previous encounters with Iceland, recorded a hard-fought victory on foreign soil. Turkish wunderkind Arda Guler’s crucial goal helped seal the win and break the team’s challenging record against the Icelandic side.
Türkiye rallied with key goals from Irfan Can Kahveci in the 62nd minute, Hakan Calhanoglu in the 67th, Arda Guler in the 88th, and Kerem Akturkoglu in the 90+5th.
Iceland opened the scoring early, with Oskarsson finding the net in the 3rd minute, followed by Gudjohnsen’s goal in the 83rd minute.
With this victory, Türkiye climbed to the top of the group, amassing 10 points.
On November 16, Türkiye will face Wales in a home match. That same day, Iceland will visit Montenegro in Podgorica.
