Türkiye coach Montella dismisses Roma speculation: ‘I enjoy hearing them’
Vincenzo Montella, coach of the Türkiye national football team, addressed growing speculation linking him to a potential return to Italian football giant Roma. With rumors swirling before Türkiye’s match against Wales, Montella remained composed, commenting on the media attention with a confident remark: “There are speculations, and I enjoy hearing them.”
The rumors, fueled by Roma’s struggles in Serie A, suggested the club might activate Montella’s release clause. However, the experienced coach downplayed these reports.
‘We are family here,’ says Montella
“It’s nice to hear such things. It shows that our players are achieving great things, so even the coach is being mentioned in these speculations. A month ago, it was the Premier League, and now it’s Italy,” Montella said.
“We are a family here. Everyone eagerly looks forward to national team time, and it’s a joy to experience these moments,” he added.
Montella further clarified that if any such opportunities arose, he would discuss them directly with the president and football director of the Türkiye Football Federation. “I don’t need to worry about it,” he added.
‘There is no such thing’
Additionaly, Turkish Football Federation (TFF) representative also refuted these claims, saying, “There is no such thing.”
Earlier, Italian media had reported that Roma, who have faced inconsistent performances in Serie A, were considering Montella as a potential replacement for their current coach.
Since taking charge of Türkiye, Montella has led the national team to nine wins, three draws, and five defeats. His connection with Roma is also notable, as he previously coached their youth team from 2009 to 2011, followed by a brief spell as the senior team’s head coach in 2011.
