Turkish star Unal’s EURO 2024 dream dashed by fractured toe
As excitement builds for Türkiye’s EURO 2024 campaign, unfortunate news continues to emerge. Following Caglar Soyuncu’s withdrawal from the squad due to injury, Enes Unal has now received a similar fate.
Enes Unal has been removed from the EURO 2024 extended squad due to a fractured big toe on his left foot, as announced by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).
In a statement issued by the TFF, it was revealed that following an examination and tests after the Turkish National Team’s training session on Saturday, forward Unal was found to have a fracture in his left big toe. Due to the determination that Unal’s injury will not fully heal during the EURO 2024 tournament, our player has been excluded from the Turkish National Team’s 2024 European Championship extended squad.
Having worn the Türkiye National Team jersey since 2015, Unal was named the player of the year in Türkiye in 2022. During the mid-season transfer window, he was loaned to Bournemouth. Following his performance at Bournemouth, the English club exercised the purchase option, marking their return to the Premier League after a long absence.
The player’s current market value, according to Transfermarkt data, is listed at $19.54 million.
