Turkish Football Federation to elect new president
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) is set to elect its new president on Thursday.
Current president Mehmet Buyukeksi, responding to pressure from clubs during the ongoing season, called for an extraordinary general assembly and faces competition from Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu, former president of Trabzonspor.
Candidates must submit 65 wet-ink signed petitions (one-fifth of the delegate count) to the general assembly board.
The accounts and activities of Buyukeksi’s presidency, from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, will also be reviewed for approval.
The newly elected TFF president will serve until June 2027.
Who is Mehmet Buyukeksi?
Born on May 10, 1961, in Gaziantep, Mehmet Buyukeksi is a prominent businessman who formerly served as president of the Turkish Exporters Assembly.
Following his leadership at Gaziantep FK, he emerged as the sole candidate and secured the TFF presidency in 2022, succeeding Nihat Ozdemir.
Buyukeksi is widely viewed as the frontrunner in today’s election.
Who is Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu?
Born on February 21, 1966, in Trabzon, Haciosmanoglu is involved in trade, particularly in the petroleum and construction sectors.
He served as the 15th president of Trabzonspor from 2013 to 2015. Haciosmanoglu also ran for the TFF presidency in 2012 but was not elected.
