The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has almost finalized its decision regarding the referee for the Besiktas-Galatasaray derby, which is scheduled to take place on March 29.

Following the Galatasaray-Fenerbahce derby on Feb. 24, which was officiated by foreign referee Slavko Vincic, both Besiktas and Trabzonspor requested that Vincic be assigned to their respective derby matches.

This led to much anticipation and speculation as the two clubs pushed for a foreign referee for their upcoming encounters. The request from Besiktas and Trabzonspor drew the attention of both fans and the Turkish Football Federation.

90% likelihood of a Turkish referee

According to reports from Sabah newspaper, the TFF has nearly decided on the referee for the Besiktas-Galatasaray derby, with a 90% likelihood that a Turkish referee will be in charge of the match.

Broader impact on season

This decision is not just limited to the Besiktas-Galatasaray derby; it is expected to apply to all matches throughout the league this season. Reports indicate that the TFF and the Turkish Football Referees Association (MHK) are in agreement on this approach, signaling that Turkish referees will be officiating the majority of Super Lig matches moving forward.
