Turkish duo claims silver in 10m air pistol mixed at Paris 2024 Olympics in historic win
The Turkish national team, comprising Yusuf Dikec and Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, achieved a historic milestone by winning the silver medal in the 10-meter air pistol mixed category, following a narrow defeat to Serbia in the final.
Competing at the Châteauroux Shooting Centre, Yusuf Dikec and Sevval Ilayda Tarhan faced off against Serbia’s Damir Mikec and Zorana Arunovic in a closely contested and thrilling final.
Dikec’s relaxed demeanor, including competing without headphones and with one hand in his pocket, drew widespread attention and admiration, making him a social media sensation.
The Turkish duo finished with a score of 16-14, securing the silver medal.
1st medal in shooting
This achievement marks Türkiye’s first-ever Olympic medal in the shooting discipline. The Serbian pair Damir Mikec and Zorana Arunovic claimed the gold medal, while India’s Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won bronze.
Youth and Sports Minister Osman Askin Bak attended the final match to support the athletes in person.
10th discipline with medal
With this silver medal, shooting becomes the 10th discipline in which Turkish athletes have won medals in the Olympic Games history.
Previously, Türkiye has secured medals in wrestling, weightlifting, taekwondo, boxing, karate, athletics, judo, archery and gymnastics.
