Top Turkish clubs Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas face disciplinary board action
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) referred Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Trabzonspor to the Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK) after misconduct during the 15th week of the Trendyol Super Lig.
Other clubs, including Sivasspor, Antalyaspor, Konyaspor, Goztepe, and Adana Demirspor, were also referred for disciplinary action.
Disciplinary charges for both Galatasaray, Sivasspor after match
Galatasaray and Sivasspor were charged with multiple violations from their match on December 8.
According to the TFF, “Galatasaray’s offenses included unsportsmanlike chants, field disturbances, failure to leave staircase spaces empty, and team misconduct after 5 players received yellow cards and 1 player received a red card.” These actions violated Articles 40, 49, 52, and 53 of the Football Disciplinary Instructions.
Sivasspor faced similar accusations, including unsportsmanlike chants, field disturbances, and failure to keep staircases clear, a recurring issue in league matches.
Both clubs now await the disciplinary board’s review to determine potential penalties.
Fenerbahce, Besiktas referred for misconduct during derby match
The heated derby between Fenerbahce and Besiktas on December 7 led to disciplinary referrals for both clubs.
The TFF cited unsportsmanlike chants and field disturbances as reasons for the action. These incidents were processed under Articles 52 and 53 of the Football Disciplinary Instructions.
The derby attracted significant attention due to its high stakes and passionate fan base, further raising concerns about crowd behavior and adherence to league rules.
The disciplinary board will assess the charges related to fan misconduct and field disturbances during this high-profile derby.
Trabzonspor, other clubs also referred to disciplinary board
Trabzonspor’s December 6 match against Kasimpasa also resulted in disciplinary action. The TFF stated, “Trabzonspor exhibited unsportsmanlike chants and field disturbances, violating Articles 52 and 53.”
Additional referrals included Antalyaspor, Konyaspor, Goztepe, and Adana Demirspor, all cited for misconduct during their respective matches.
The disciplinary board is also reviewing cases involving Trabzonspor, as well as Antalyaspor, Konyaspor, Goztepe, and Adana Demirspor, for similar violations.
Growing concerns about Turkish football teams, fans’ bahavior
The increasing number of referrals has raised concerns about team and fan behavior across the Super Lig.
The TFF relies on the disciplinary board to address these issues by closely monitoring incidents and enforcing penalties. Clubs found guilty could face fines, stadium restrictions, or suspensions.
This round of disciplinary actions reflects the TFF’s commitment to maintaining order and ensuring compliance with league regulations. The outcomes of the PFDK decisions are expected to influence future behavior and operational measures within Türkiye’s top football league.
