Ticket scandal triggers early election debate at Galatasaray
Galatasaray’s recent ticket scandal has sparked discussions about early elections and allegations of corruption within the club. Despite acquiring one of the world’s most expensive forwards, Victor Osimhen, the club faces criticism over unsold and resold players, with the black market ticket scandal intensifying accusations of misconduct.
Tickets for Galatasaray’s matches against Fenerbahce, Bayern Munich and Manchester United last season reportedly sold out within minutes of becoming available. Following this, the club reassigned Emircan, the assistant responsible for ticket sales and season passes. Emircan’s last name has not been disclosed due to the ongoing investigation.
Reports suggest that about 10,000 tickets, aside from season passes, are shown as sold out immediately due to a special application. These tickets are then resold on the black market at prices up to 5,000 euros ($5,544.42). The fan group UltrAslan is rumored to be involved in this scheme, which is estimated to generate around 56 million euros annually.
The ongoing investigation by the prosecutor’s office involves 18 individuals, including club officials and fan group leaders.
In response to the allegations, Galatasaray announced it would commission an independent audit to investigate the claims. The club has stated that if any misuse of funds or other irregularities are detected, legal action will be pursued against those responsible.
Journalist Fatih claims Galatasaray filed complaints against those reporting ticket scandal
Galatasaray also reported that a criminal complaint has been filed concerning the allegations. However, journalist Fatih Altayli, a Galatasaray member, claimed that instead of the allegations being investigated, complaints have been filed against those making the accusations. Altayli stated, “I received a court summons and a criminal complaint has been filed against us for allegedly defaming Galatasaray.”
Altayli criticized Galatasaray President Dursun Ozbek for not seeking an investigation into the corruption claims but rather pursuing legal action against those raising the issues.
Rezan Epozdemir, a former vice president of the club and legal expert, emphasized the need for a thorough review of all documents to determine if there has been any unjust enrichment. He also suggested that the officials and professionals named in the scandal should not hold any club positions until the legal process is complete.
Adnan Polat prepares to run for president
Meanwhile, social media users are urging the resignation of Galatasaray’s management. Fans are demanding the immediate resignation of Dursun Ozbek and his administration, who were elected just three months ago, and are calling for new elections to be held without delay.
Alongside the election demands, there are claims that former President Adnan Polat is preparing to run for president.
