Bayern Munich confirmed Tuchel will step down as the head coach at the end of the ongoing season

Thomas Tuchel is set to step down as Bayern Munich’s head coach after the ongoing season, the club officially announced Wednesday.

Initially appointed in March 2023, Tuchel’s departure will precede the original end date of his contract, which was slated for June 2025.

The decision follows a string of disappointing performances, leaving Bayern trailing eight points behind Bundesliga leader Bayer Leverkusen and experiencing a 1-0 defeat to Lazio in the Champions League last-16 first leg.

Before Bayern Munich, Tuchel coached Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

He worked for Paris Saint-Germain to win back-to-back French league titles in 2019 and 2020.

Under Tuchel’s helm, Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the 2020 Champions League final in Lisbon but lost to Bayern Munich.

Tuchel led Chelsea to win a UEFA Champions League title, Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Collecting 50 points, Bayern Munich are in second place in UEFA club rankings, eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen.

Last week, the Bavarians suffered a narrow loss to Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match.
