TFF announces 14 foreign player limit for 2025-2026 Super Lig season

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has revealed the foreign player regulations for the 2025-2026 Super Lig season.

According to the new rule, clubs will be allowed to have a maximum of 14 foreign players on their rosters.

New foreign player quota for 2025-2026 season

For the 2025-2026 season, clubs can include up to 14 foreign players in their A team roster. However, only 12 of these foreign players are required to meet no age criteria. The remaining 2 foreign players must be born on or after January 1, 2003.

Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 season, at least 4 of the 14 foreign players must be born on or after January 1, 2004.

Additional details and exceptions

“Clubs can have a maximum of 14 foreign players on their A team list, none of whom are eligible to play for the Turkish national team. Of these 14 players, 12 will have no age restrictions. However, at least 2 of them must be born after January 1, 2003, for the 2025-2026 season. Clubs are free to use any combination of foreign players up to this limit, provided it doesn’t interfere with the number of eligible players for the Turkish National Team,” in an official statement, the TFF clarified.

Additionally, in the 2026-2027 season, at least 4 of the 14 foreign players must be born on or after January 1, 2004.

If a club has more than 14 foreign players under contract, the players not listed on the A team cannot participate in official matches for the club’s A team.

Special rules for foreign players from certain countries

Clubs may also add one foreign player from countries like Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to the A team list, even if they are not eligible to play for the Turkish national team.

Additionally, foreign players with Turkish citizenship or blue card holders can also be included in the A team list.

Finally, the TFF emphasized that clubs are not required to add players who are eligible to play for the Turkish national team but can freely include them in match squads.
