Aston Villa’s sporting director Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo, better known as Monchi, has confirmed that the Premier League club is closely following Real Madrid’s Turkish star, Arda Guler.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Marca, the renowned Spanish executive praised the young midfielder, saying he is well aware of Guler’s talent and potential.

“Arda is a player followed by every sporting director projecting into Turkiye football,” Monchi said. “He fits the profile we are looking for and possesses qualities that make him an attractive option for Aston Villa. Many of the attributes we seek in a player can be found in Arda Guler.”

‘Outstanding technical qualities’

Monchi emphasized Guler’s impressive skill set, noting that he is highly admired by Aston Villa. “In my opinion, he has outstanding technical qualities and shows strong character on the pitch,” Monchi remarked, adding that Guler demonstrates “strong character on the pitch.”

According to Monchi, the player’s performances with the national team reveal a level of maturity uncommon for his age, as he “takes on responsibilities well beyond” what is typically expected.

Monchi, who has been with Aston Villa since July 2023, made his name with Sevilla between 2000 and 2017, where he played a key role in the club’s golden era.

This season, the Turkish international has made 30 appearances for Real Madrid, coming off the bench in 20 of those matches and contributing 3 goals and 5 assists. Reports also suggest that other Premier League giants, including Liverpool and Arsenal, are monitoring the 19-year-old’s situation.
