Paragliding event in Türkiye’s Bilecik attracts over 100 athletes
The “Take Off Bilecik” paragliding event, coordinated by the Bilecik Governorship, brought together 110 athletes, including Artvin Deputy Governor Dilara Senoglu, who participated in a demonstration flight.
On the first day of the event, participants gathered in the early morning at Vezirhan Belde Park before heading to the paragliding site at Meryem Mountain in the Golpazari district.
The mountain, located in the Marmara Region of Türkiye, is known for its scenic views and accessible location, sitting at 550 meters above sea level and offering a panoramic view of a nearby lake.
Senoglu, who has been involved in paragliding for about four years, shared her excitement about the event and expressed her appreciation for the support provided by Bilecik Governor Sefik Aygol.
“I have previously flown in places like Eskisehir and Sakarya, but this is my first time experiencing Meryem Mountain,” she said. “It’s a beautiful spot in the Marmara Region, easy to reach, and the view of the lake from here is just breathtaking.”
Senoglu’s passion for paragliding started after her first tandem flight with a pilot. She said, “This sport has become a passion for me. I have tried many sports, but paragliding is something I cannot give up. I am doing everything I can to improve my skills.”
She also noted that people are often surprised to learn about her involvement in such an extreme sport, given her role as a government official.
“When people hear that I am into paragliding, they are usually shocked,” she said.
“But paragliding has a calming effect on me,” she added. “When I am up in the sky, I forget everything. It’s like a place where all worries disappear.”
Senoglu emphasized that her enthusiasm for paragliding has brought her a lot of happiness.
She mentioned the late Governor Recep Yazicioglu, who was also a paragliding pilot, as an inspiration. “His passion for extreme sports has always motivated me,” she said. “Knowing that I share this interest makes me feel connected to his legacy.”
The “Take Off Bilecik” event will conclude on Aug. 19, wrapping up a successful gathering of paragliding enthusiasts from across the region.
