Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens secured remarkable 97-86 victory over Real Madrid in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague

Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens stunned Real Madrid 97-86 in a Thursday Turkish Airlines EuroLeague game to bag their first win in the Spanish capital since 2013.

Panathinaikos’ Mathias Lessort led the Greens with 26 points to be the key player for an away win. He was also the game’s top scorer at Madrid’s WiZink Center.

The Athens club’s U.S. guard Kendrick Nunn scored 17 points, and Greek playmaker Kostas Sloukas added 16 for the victors.

Real Madrid, who took their first home loss of the 2023-24 EuroLeague season, were led by Guerschon Yabusele as the French forward scored 18 points. His teammate, Dzanan Musa, had 16 points.

The Spanish club’s French forward, Fabien Causeur, scored 13 points.

Turkish coach Ergin Ataman’s Panathinaikos, who ended their 11-year losing streak in Madrid, improved to 17-10 to be third in the standings.

Leaders Real Madrid were handed their fifth loss in 27 games.
