Lewis Hamilton rumored to leave Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025
The motorsports community buzzes with rumors of Lewis Hamilton’s sensational switch to Ferrari, possibly marking a historic chapter in his F1 career
Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is rumored to be on the brink of a sensational switch from Mercedes to Ferrari for the 2025 season.
Hamilton secured his first title with McLaren in 2008, then switched to Mercedes in 2013, and signed a two-year contract extension with Mercedes in 2023. Despite this, speculation has been rife about his future, with Ferrari emerging as a likely destination. Reports suggest that Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes might have included an option for the second year, which leaves the door open for a move to Ferrari.
The British driver, who holds the record for the most F1 wins in history, has been frequently linked with the Italian team throughout his career. Ferrari has not clinched a driver’s title since Kimi Raikkonen’s victory in 2007 and could see Hamilton as the key to ending this drought. The move would also offer Hamilton a chance to become the first driver since Juan Manuel Fangio in 1957 to win championships with three different teams.
Ferrari chairman John Elkann, a long-time admirer of Hamilton, is believed to have played a pivotal role in these negotiations. The switch would mean Carlos Sainz leaving Ferrari, with the Spaniard’s future already a subject of much speculation.
While Hamilton has previously laughed off suggestions of a move to Ferrari, recent developments indicate that discussions have gained momentum. His longstanding relationship with Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur, who managed Hamilton in his junior career, could be a key factor in this monumental switch.
