Kenyan athlete Sarah Chepchirchir has been banned for eight years following a violation of anti-doping standards

Kenyan athlete Sarah Chepchirchir has been banned for eight years following a violation of anti-doping standards, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said Wednesday.

According to the AIU statement, testosterone was detected in Chepchirchir’s doping sample, and the 39-year-old athlete was banned from participating in athletics activities for eight years, starting from Dec. 22, 2023.

Chepchirchir won the women’s Tokyo Marathon, one of the six major athletic races in 2017. However, in 2019, she was banned for four years due to abnormalities in her biological passport.

AIU continues its work with strict supervision and penalties to protect sports’ integrity and combat doping. Efforts continue to be made at the international level to prevent doping from poisoning sports.
