Galatasaray’s $8.3M signing of Colombian defender Cuesta under fire

After missing out on Milan Skriniar, who ultimately joined Fenerbahce, Galatasaray made a last-minute move for Colombian defender Carlos Cuesta, signing him for €8 million ($8.36 million). However, his appearance against Kasimpasa proved costly, leading to the loss of two crucial points.
Substituted in the 80th minute, Cuesta committed a decisive foul just one minute later, pulling down an opponent inside the box.
The resulting penalty allowed Kasimpasa to equalize, denying Galatasaray a much-needed victory.
‘I would terminate his contract immediately!’
Former Galatasaray forward Umit Karan did not hold back in his criticism of Cuesta, voicing his frustration over the defender’s signing and performance:
Who is Cuesta? Where did you even find him? Was he hitchhiking on the street? How do you bring him on when Eren is already covering that position? Why disrupt the team’s balance?
You already had Kaan, Cuesta, and Metahan—what’s next, 10 center-backs on the pitch? Even an amateur wouldn’t make that foul!
You come in and immediately concede a penalty. If it were up to me, I’d terminate his contract on the spot!

Galatasaray now faces increased scrutiny over its winter transfer decisions, as Cuesta’s high-profile signing raises concerns among fans and pundits alike.
