Galatasaray gears up for a new challenge in the UEFA Europa League after disappointing journey in the Champions League

Turkish club Galatasaray will face Czech Republic’s Sparta Prague in the knockout round for Round 16 at the UEFA Europa League.

Galatasaray, one of Türkiye’s football powerhouses, is gearing up for a new challenge in the UEFA Europa League after an eventful but ultimately disappointing journey in the Champions League.

The team, led by coach Okan Buruk, secured a third-place finish in their Champions League group, earning them a spot in the Europa League knockout rounds.

Frequent occupants of a place at Europe’s top table over the past decade, Galatasaray had to come through three two-legged qualifying ties to even reach the group stage of 2023-24.

Champions League, where Copenhagen awaited alongside two teams, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Taking four points from their two fixtures with the sub-par Red Devils put Buruk’s men firmly in contention for a ticket to the knockouts as they headed into the final match week level on points with Copenhagen.

Still, a 1-0 loss on Danish soil couldn’t let the Turkish Super Lig powerhouses have a shot at glory in the continent’s secondary competition.
