Nuri Sahin steps in as Borussia Dortmund’s head coach
Borussia Dortmund has announced the appointment of Nuri Sahin as their new head coach, following the departure of Edin Terzić on Thursday, confirming the much-awaited expectations. Sahin, a former Türkiye international and a familiar face at Signal Iduna Park has signed a three-year contract with the club.
Sahin, who returned to Dortmund in December 2023 to serve as Terzić’s assistant, expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for the new role. “It is a great honor for me to be the coach of Borussia Dortmund,” Sahin said. “I would like to thank everyone in charge at the club for the trust they have placed in me. I am really looking forward to my job at BVB. From day one, we will do everything we can with a lot of energy and great passion to achieve the maximum possible success.”
Lars Ricken, Dortmund’s sporting director, emphasized Sahin’s deep connection with the club. “Nuri knows the club, its employees, and the BVB ‘DNA’ both as a player and as an assistant coach,” Ricken said. “We are convinced that Nuri is the right coach for us.”
Sahin, who had two spells as a player at Dortmund, steps into the head coach position with the club aiming to build on their recent successes. Last season, Dortmund reached the Champions League final but was defeated 2-0 by Real Madrid.
The club and its supporters hope that Sahin’s intimate knowledge of Borussia Dortmund and his experience on and off the pitch will guide the team to new heights in the coming seasons.
