FIFA to kick off biennial series of friendly games in March
FIFA introduces the FIFA Series, a groundbreaking initiative featuring a series of friendly matches
FIFA is introducing a groundbreaking initiative, the “FIFA Series,” a set of friendly matches that provides national football teams unique opportunities to engage in cross-confederation competitions.
This pilot project, announced by the global football governing body on Monday, is scheduled to kick off next month in four countries: Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Azerbaijan, and Sri Lanka.
While the FIFA Series doesn’t involve traditional trophies or prize money, its primary goal is to benefit national teams that often face limitations in playing against teams from diverse confederations.
The tournament will take place during the international window, fostering cooperation and collaboration among teams from different regions.
FIFA, demonstrating its commitment to this initiative, will cover the travel expenses for participating teams, removing financial barriers that often restrict international friendlies.
