Ferdi Kadioglu to join Premier League as Fenerbahce officially confirms with Brighton
Fenerbahce has initiated discussions with English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion FC regarding the transfer of Turkish national team player Ferdi Kadioglu. The Istanbul-based club confirmed the development in an official statement sent to Borsa Istanbul and shared on the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).
“Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of our player Ferdi Erenay Kadioglu to England’s Brighton & Hove Albion FC,” the statement read.
Fenerbahce granted Kadioglu permission to travel to England last week for medical examinations and to advance transfer discussions. This follows Brighton’s reported agreement with Fenerbahce on a £33.5 million ($44.28 million) deal for the 24-year-old player. If finalized, the deal will set a new record as the most expensive transfer in Turkish Super Lig history.
Kadioglu is expected to sign a five-year contract with Brighton, which includes an option for an additional year. His annual salary is projected to be £2.5 million. The Dutch-born player has attracted significant attention from European clubs, especially following his standout performances with the Turkish national team during the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament.
Fenerbahce’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, has given conditional approval for Kadioglu’s transfer but has requested that the club reinforce the defense in his absence. Mourinho, while expressing a desire to retain Kadioglu, is seeking to bolster the squad, specifically looking for a left-footed center-back to replace the versatile player. Fenerbahce is reportedly eyeing Calvin Bassey of Fulham to fill this role, though Mourinho has also been evaluating other options.
Kadioglu had an impressive 2023-2024 season, making 51 appearances for Fenerbahce and five for the Turkish national team. His total of 56 official matches and 4,774 minutes on the field highlighted his importance to the club and country. Known for his versatility, Kadioglu can play in multiple positions, making him an attractive prospect for any team.
Brighton’s interest in Kadioglu comes after his performances at Euro 2024, where he significantly boosted his market value, which is currently estimated at €30 million. Should the transfer proceed, it will mark a significant milestone in Turkish football, with Kadioglu becoming the most expensive export from the Super Lig.
